On March 24 2024 the band loaded up a borrowed ute with camera gear, musical props, and homemade foot-long subs and made our way as far south as possible to capture the perfect sunset lighting. We shot 4 takes before the sun sank behind a low hill and into the ocean. And just like that the Slow Time music video was made. The video takes the viewer (physically) from Kawakawa Station to Ngawi Tractors along the rugged coastline and (metaphorically) between the two sides of myself. I’m hitchin’ a ride on the ute of life.
Slow Time is a deeply personal song about navigating the two pulling forces of my life. A cowboy’s conundrum. One side in the past and the other in the future yet constantly (and somewhat annoyingly) both happening in the present. You can read the lyrics in my last newsletter - check it out.
I hope you enjoy the video. Send this post to a friend who you think might enjoy the song or video. It’s an exclusive early release so ya know… show it off :))
The official release of the video via Youtube is June 13th 2025. Support from Home Alone Records. Filmed by Taylor Nixon. Big thanks to Ruby Leonard, Frank Leonard and Mads Taylor.
Now I’d like to share some albums that rock my socks off.
3D Country by Geese
I shared this album in issue 021 and I’ll share it again! In the great tradition of rock music, this American band are shredding the rule book. These tracks start sweet with that infectious yacht rockish bop and before you know it guitars are smashing and vocal cords are ripping. I wouldn’t be surprise if these gentlemen listened to Thin Lizzy, Leon Russell, and Queen growing up. I love it because it reminds me of my youth listening to my dad’s cd collection with a touch of something I felt like I was not allowed to listen to as a child.
Peculiar, Missouri by Willi Carlisle
I grew up in Peculiar, Missouri. Not really, but sometimes it feels like it. This is my idea of traditional country music. This man knows how to captivate the listener with lyrics that seem to be guiding you down a straight path yet before you know it you’re in a vast field of towering complex emotions.
Little Songs by Colter Wall
This entire album is pure country gold. Colter Wall called this album Little Songs however they are quite the opposite. Massive works of beauty. The band is flawless and Colter’s voice is brimming with rough edges and gently in the same room as you. Goddamn I wish this was on bandcamp. The song, The Coyote & The Cowboy, is the inspiration for the title of this newsletter.
Midwest Cowboy - Brain Kaiser
“Occupying the space between myth and reality, the cowboy is a uniquely American character. Bursting with symbolism and patriotic themes — rugged individualism, honor, strength, resilience — the cowboy is an enduring and iconic folk hero but one that has rarely been examined.” -Brian Kaiser
This is not a music album. WTF!? It’s a photo album! While we are on the theme of cowboy’s and conundrums I’d like to share this amazing photo set from Brian Kaiser. This photographic cultural survey brings you into the rituals and sacrifices of the Midwestern cowboy. Mud and denim baby. Looking at these photos conjures up a strong sense of nostalgia in me.

Rolling Golden Holy by Bonny Light Horseman
It’s the supergroup Bonny Light Horseman! I featured their first album in my first ever edition of this newsletter when I didn’t know what I was doing.
Here is another fantastic Bonny Light Horseman album and I still don’t know what I’m doing!
If you have thoughts on cowboys or conundrums send them my way.
