amazing EPs & bdays
010. Angel Olsen, Obscura Hail, Nia Archives, Foggy Notion + my new lyric vid
At the beginning of last month I was in a van at Mavora Lakes on an unplanned stop-off from our trip through Aotearoa’s grand south. From Horomaka to Te Kirikiri my best mate Collin, my brother Zech, and I piled in a mouldy van and ‘amazed at Collin’s new phone camera’ we documented the breathtaking landscapes. We also made embarrassing movie scene re-enactments that I hope no one will ever see. Thank you Collin for filming, editing, and crafting a selection of beautiful scenes to the tune & lyrics of my song. Watch here:
This month I celebrated my 28th birthday. The past year has been filled with so much joy and learning. I’ve been making (& releasing!) music with Mads & Kei for our project Sig Wilder & Friends. There is nothing quite as wonderful as creating noise with other humans. I can’t wait for you to hear what we’ve been cooking up.
This month also marks the 1st birthday for Garden Music! Cheers to many more. This edition I’m going to take a departure from full-length albums and feature some EPs that have impressed and inspired me. These are too good not to share! In addition to new EPs I’ve also included EPs that have stuck with me for the past few years. Hope you enjoy!
Forever Means EP - Angel Olsen
Angel has done it again! These tracks were recorded during the Big Time sessions (an album I wrote about here) and they burn with the same passion. It’s hypnotic and haunting and endlessly re-playable.

Girl’s Gotta Eat EP - Revulva
Coming at you from my home of Te Whanganui-a-Tara it’s Revulva! As stated on bandcamp this EP is about what it's like to be a woman navigating life and the music industry. Enjoy these funky quirky catchy impressive songs.

Siren EP - Obsurca Hail
From the lovely Melbourne trio Obscura Hail this EP has the ability to transport me back to the days of blissful childhood. Tamara (bass/vocal) and Sean (guitar/vocal) used to frequent the cafe where I worked. I would ‘fangirl’ with the chef when they would come in—after a while I developed a lovely relationship with them but the excitement never wore off. They are genuinely kind people with a knack for writing damn good music.

Volume One - Foggy Notion
Another band that I met while working at the cafe. These cool cats once walked in for a meeting with a man dressed in leather holding a cow-skin briefcase. I inquired to the leather business man as he was paying and he informed me that they are ‘Foggy Notion a band to watch’. I’ve been watching and I like what I’m seeing. Can’t wait for Volume III.
